📢 Our member Zelena akcija / FoE Croatia together with the Extinction Rebellion Zagreb held an action at the headquarters of LNG Croatia to point out the harmful effects of the further expansion of the Krk LNG terminal on and the construction of new gas pipelines. They covered the board with the name of the company with a large banner listing its sins. #GlobalDayofAction to #EndFossilFuels and move towards #FastFairForever! #RenewablesNow #EnergyTransition #ClimateAction ✊

Lawsuits against free speech: what are you afraid of? The Croatian Government sided with the position of the Council of the EU, which significantly weakens the regulation of the so-called SLAPP lawsuits or strategic lawsuits against free speech. Zelena akcija / FoE Croatia participated in a press conference in front of the Ministry of Justice and Administration today on the occasion of the vote on the anti-SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation) directive in the European Parliament. The discussion of the members of the Parliament will be held today, and on Tuesday they will vote on the rules for protecting journalists, activists, academics, artists etc. from legal procedures that aim to silence them through unfounded and abusive legal procedures. In addition to introducing the public to the worrisome position taken by the Government, the goal of the press conference, organised by the Croatian Journalists' Association, was to highlight the large number of lawsuits against journalists and activists in Croatia. That is why one of the speakers was Enes Ćerimagić, FoE Croatia’s lawyer from the FoE Croatia. ➡️ We live in a time when environmental issues are at the forefront of many people's minds. #TheAarhusConvention is a major milestone in the push to uphold environmental rights for all and ensure that civil society and the public have a say in environmental decision-making. ➡️ The 27th meeting of the Working Group of the Parties to the Convention was held in Geneva, opening new horizons for environmental democracy. Despite the challenges posed by the ongoing war in Ukraine, significant efforts are made to implement the Convention, with initiatives such as the #EcoSystem digital platform and #EcoZagroza system for controlling and monitoring the environmental situation. The Special Rapporteur on #EnvironmentalDefenders under the Aarhus Convention highlighted the importance of protecting environmental defenders, who also spoke of the need to promote transparency and public participation in international forums. Consumer, health and environmental protection groups urge justice for EU pollution victims in crucial IED vote A coalition of European organisations protecting consumers, health and environment across Europe have sent an urgent letter to MEPs to entreaty them to introduce vital protection for pollution victims in the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED). The IED governs over 50,000 installations like steelworks, chemicals and plastics factories, industrial farms and coal plants, all over Europe. ClientEarth lawyer Bellinda Bartolucci said: “Illegal pollution is on the doorsteps of households across Europe and it’s making people sick. There are elevated rates of cancer around illegally polluting plants, widespread respiratory issues, metal traces found in sick children’s brains – and currently, the people and families affected are still the ones that have to pay the price. It is now up to MEPs to put people’s health first.
