Justice and Environment’s Analysis of 2014 Amendments to the European EIA Directive

Justice and Environment network has delved into the implications of the 2014 amendments to the European Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Directive. Since its inception following the 1970 National Environmental Protection Act in the USA and its subsequent adoption into EU law in 1985, the EIA has played a pivotal role in environmental legislation worldwide.

The research was conducted across Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, and Hungary, sought insights from environmental civil society organizations (CSOs) regarding the familiarity with EIA Directive procedures and the effectiveness of post-assessment monitoring. The findings, compiled through legal analysis and opinion-based surveys, provide crucial insights into the latest developments in European EIA laws and their practical implications.
